See more than one viable way forward.
Train to maneuver through friction.
The same uncertainty that tests a unit in the field tests the people within it. TRACM applies maneuver warfare thinking to the cognitive and moral challenges of leadership, combat, and life.
When the situation changes, our thinking must be able to move.
Resilience is a skill to practice.
Friction can narrow attention, drain energy, and make a familiar response feel like the only response. TRACM gives leaders and teams a way to recognize that moment and regain room to maneuver.

TRACM stands for Tactical Resilience and Adaptive Cognitive Maneuver. It translates maneuver warfare principles into practical training for adaptation under pressure. The aim is to prepare people to meet uncertainty with more options, sound judgment, and the initiative to act.
Move from recognition to useful action.
Align people, purpose, strengths, and resources.
Act with ownership and earn trust through values.
Adaptive Cognitive Maneuver™

SHAPE describes what leaders practice before, during, and after friction. Each action helps a team keep its capacity to respond as conditions change.
SShape
Build trust, shared understanding, skill, and room for honest questions before friction arrives.
HHear
Seek weak signals from the team: changed behavior, rising load, dissent, confusion, and emerging opportunities.
AAdapt
Change the plan, pace, roles, or support as conditions change; give people meaningful options and initiative.
PProtect
Reduce avoidable harm, act early when someone is struggling, and connect them with qualified care when needed.
EEnergize
Restore capacity through rest, purpose, strengths, connection, and recognition; bring people back into meaningful participation.
Built for the moments that test judgment.
Scenario practice
Work through changing situations and rehearse fresh responses before real pressure arrives.
Leader conversations
Create space to question assumptions, surface options, and build a shared understanding.
After-action learning
Examine what changed, what gave people energy, and what to adjust the next time.

Mike Vincent developed TRACM from his study of maneuver warfare and resilience, informed by his experience leading Marines. His work asks how individuals and teams can train cognitive flexibility with the same deliberateness they bring to other warfighting skills.
TRACM and ACM are developing frameworks. Opportunities to apply and evaluate them with organizations are welcome.
